Save Money With The Right Thermostat-Tips From Reliant AC

When it comes to saving money on your energy bill during the hot Texas summer, Reliant AC has the right tips to help you save!

How you use thermostats can really affect your energy bill. There are two types of thermostats: programmable and manual. According to The Department of Energy, keeping your house warmer than normal when you are away, and setting the thermostat to 78 degrees when you return home when the house needs cooling is a great way to save.

When placing a thermostat in your home, The Department of Energy suggests the following:

  • Read the manufacturer’s installation instructions to prevent “ghost readings.(“Ghost Readings” are unnecessary furnace or air conditioner cycling)

  • A thermostat must be on an interior wall away from direct sunlight, drafts, doorways, skylights, and windows.

  • Thermostats should be located where natural room air currents, for that’s the natural warm air rising, cool air sinking effect.

  • Furniture will block natural air movement, so do not place pieces in front of or below your thermostat.

  • Make sure your thermostat is conveniently located for programming.

Don’t know which programmable thermostat is right for your unit? Let the Reliant AC team help you. Take a look at this great infographic by Direct Energy about managing your thermostat to save energy:
